Bam! NASA spacecraft crashes into asteroid in defense test

The galactic slam occurred at a harmless asteroid 7 million miles (9.6 million kilometers) away, with the spacecraft named Dart plowing into the space rock at 14,000 mph (22,500 kph). Scientists expected the impact to carve out a crater, hurl streams of rocks and dirt into space and, most importantly, alter the asteroid's orbit.

Centre sets stiffer air pollution reduction target

Delhi's PM10 level reduced from 241g/m3 in 2017 to 196 g/m3 in 2021-22. Similarly, the PM10 level in Mumbai reduced from 151g/m3 in 2017 to 106 g/m3 in 2021-22 whereas it reduced from 119 g/m3 in 2017 to 105 g/m3 in Kolkata in 2021-22.

In a first, 2 girls inducted into RIMC

The Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) inducted two girls for the first time in the institution's history of over 100 years, reports Pankul Sharma. The 'July batch of 2022' began on Monday with students of Class 8, including the two girl students. Central command PRO Shantanu Pratap Singh termed it "a historic moment for the college". He said one of the girl students is from Haryana and the other is a day scholar. The decision on RIMC came after the Centre opened the doors of the NDA for women.

Fertility rate declined by 20% in India in 10 years: SRS data

The average GFR in India stood at 86.1 from 2008 to 2010 (three-year period) and has come down to 68.7 during 2018-20 (average of three years), according to the Sample Registration System (SRS) data 2020 released recently. The decline, SRS data show, has been steeper in rural areas at 20.2% compared to 15.6% in urban areas.
